Goa Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat in Goa, India

A week of yoga, ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and daily Ayurvedic massage in North Goa.

01Welcome

Practise, rest and learn by the Arabian Sea

Mornings of meditation and yoga. An Ayurvedic massage every day. Afternoons by the pool or on Ashwem Beach, ten minutes’ walk away, and evenings that end in deep relaxation. This is a week to rest properly in the warmth of Goa, and to learn, from people who live them, the two traditions India gave the world for living well: yoga and its sister science, Ayurveda. Open to experienced practitioners and to those newer to yoga.

01

Where you’ll be…

We stay at a retreat centre in North Goa, a ten-minute walk from Ashwem Beach, with clean, air-conditioned rooms and a pool.

The centre has room for many more guests than we bring. Our group stays small, so the teaching stays personal.

Photographs of the centre, its rooms and its yoga shala will be added here soon.

02

What you’ll do…

Mornings begin with meditation, pranayama and yoga before breakfast. The middle of the day is yours: your Ayurvedic massage, the pool or the beach. Yoga returns in the late afternoon, and evenings close with Yoga Nidra or a gentle relaxation.

The day-by-day programme below shows how the week fits together.

03

How you’ll feel…

Eight days is long enough for a routine to settle: practice, food, massage, rest. That routine, and how good it feels, is often what guests take home.

The practice

Traditional yoga, meditation and philosophy

The yoga is taught as it is in India: steady, unhurried and rooted in the classical texts. The morning is for practice, the late afternoon for a second session, and the evening for rest that goes deeper than sleep.

  1. 01Meditation and pranayama, the regulation of the breath, at the start of each day
  2. 02A traditional Hatha yoga class each morning
  3. 03A second yoga session in the late afternoon
  4. 04Yoga Nidra or gentle relaxation in the evening
  5. 05Yoga philosophy and discussion
  6. 06Talks on Ayurveda, and how it works with yoga

The main programme is led by our host, whom you can meet further down this page, with support from a local yoga teacher where needed.

Ayurveda

Your Ayurvedic massages

Ayurveda, “the knowledge of life”, is India’s traditional system of wellbeing. It looks at the whole of a day: when you wake and eat, what you eat, how you rest, and your own constitution, which Ayurveda calls prakriti.

Massage with warm herbal oils is at the heart of it. Each of your six sessions is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy, given by experienced Ayurveda practitioners.

  • A private consultation

A one-to-one consultation with a qualified Ayurvedic doctor, on the first, second or third day depending on the doctor’s availability, to talk about your wellbeing and way of life.

  • A daily Ayurvedic massage

A 60-minute massage every day from Sunday 14th to Friday 19th November, in the free time after breakfast: six in all. There is none on arrival or departure day.

Choose your six from:

  • Abhyanga, a full-body massage with warm herbal oils
  • Shirodhara, a steady stream of warm oil poured over the forehead
  • Potli, a massage with warm pouches of herbs
  • Herbal oil massage
  • Ayurvedic head massage
  • Head and shoulder massage
  • Foot massage

Every massage on the list suits everyone. You choose your six from the variety on offer, with guidance from our Ayurveda practitioners, and you can try a different one each day.

All massages are subject to a health check and the practitioner’s guidance. Please tell us about any medical conditions or injuries when you register.
